Women to Watch Wednesday: Sonya Uribe
A globetrotter from the age of five, Sonya has always been a Woman to Watch.
Sonya’s personal and professional journey has taken her from the Dominican Republic where she was born, to Mexico, to the catwalks of Paris, New York, Italy, Germany and Spain and now she’s living in Melbourne, Australia. She recently launched her first business, Evenio Weddings & Events, which is fast becoming known for producing events with a sophisticated touch.

Sonya’s career has included modeling for Oscar de la Renta and working in television for over a decade with NBC Universal in the US. These career and life experiences have developed within Sonya a sense of adventure and a willingness to take risks. Moving to the sophisticated, cutting-edge, vibrant and cosmopolitan city that is the Big Apple on her own at the age of 17, has helped shape Sonya into the creative, resilient and thoughtful person we meet today. With this in mind, it’s probably no surprise that Evenio is pushing to transcend the wedding industry.

While Sonya is full of passion and excitement about her latest adventure, she describes launching a business as one of the hardest things she’s ever done.
“Maintaining and growing Evenio is a huge endeavor. I've lost a lot of sleep through the journey (and I love my sleep) and there will certainly be plenty more hard work and sleep lost. But I'm so excited about the venture and the possibilities that lay ahead, I wouldn't have it any other way.”
Sonya is someone who does what she says she’ll do no matter how hard it is or how long it takes, a character trait that is no doubt helping her to pursue her goal of growing Evenio into a well oiled, successful and booming business. If you’re looking for someone to help you plan an elegant event that appears effortless, and you’re lucky enough to be in Melbourne or thinking about a destination wedding, you’ve found the person you’ve been looking for in Sonya.
